About US Cities Info

An independent publication for understanding U.S. cities through official statistics and clearly explained comparisons.

City research starts with definitions

US Cities Info helps people researching a move understand population, household income, housing and the composition of a city’s residents. It also provides reusable data for students, journalists and researchers. The purpose is to make the meaning of a figure visible: what area it covers, when it was measured and how much uncertainty accompanies it.

A city’s annual population estimate is not interchangeable with a metropolitan population. A historical survey rent is not today’s apartment listing. A median household income is not a salary requirement. Those distinctions shape the profiles, tables and comparison tools throughout this publication.

What the initial release provides

The national directory covers 19,483 PEP places from the latest completed Census PEP Vintage 2025 release, with searchable population and growth records and a directory for each state and D.C. Every covered place has a published profile. Nationwide ACS matches add income, housing, demographics, resident industries, occupations and commuting, with separate demographic and housing-cost pages when sufficient usable data exist.

Coverage is intentionally different for population and survey modules. A place without a compatible ACS record keeps its population and geography profile; it is not assigned another place’s housing statistics. Comparisons cover two to four detailed cities. Rankings name the statistic and eligible place universe. Maps and downloads preserve source information.

Editorial responsibility

US Cities Info is independent of the U.S. Census Bureau and other source agencies. Agency attribution identifies the original data, rather than an endorsement. Our editorial policy explains how sources are reviewed and corrections are recorded. Reader questions can be sent through the contact page; the company that publishes this site is identified in our privacy policy.

Statistical summaries are based on retained records. We do not claim personal experience of a city, create resident testimonials, invent author credentials, or import commercial scores and reviews. A comparison describes trade-offs; it does not declare a place universally suitable for families, retirees or any demographic group.

Sources and future coverage

Original Census files supply this release’s statistics. Climate, industry wages, school districts, connectivity and other modules will follow after their source geography is verified. Taxes, household budget models, reported crime and resident opinions need further validation before publication. The current site does not imply those modules are complete.

Read our editorial policy, methodology, sources and update record. If a statistic needs review, use the correction form.
